This work in progress, listing the men of Clewer Village who fell in the two World Wars, has been compiled from:
There are still some inconsistencies to be resolved (possibly caused by confusion over initials on the memorial) and some names which cannot be found in either "Soldiers Died" or the "Debt of Honour" register, the CWGC or in the Shepherd Archive. Ken Shepherd seems to have arrived at the same queries from his comprehensive research.
I plan to add short histories of the most common units of the men named. Many of them served in the Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire Regiment) and the infantry regiments associated with neighbouring counties. I will also include details of the main cemeteries and memorials.
For the few men who served in the Royal Navy, I hope to add details of the ship they were serving in when they died.
I am grateful for the following sources of information on the cemeteries:
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
